NOLLAMARA teenager Christopher Warrell has put AFL scouts on notice after the Flying Boomerang’s recent tour of South Africa.
Warrell (15) was one of the team’s best performers during its two-week tour of South Africa in January.
The Mirrabooka Senior High School student took best-on-ground honours in one of the Flying Boomerang’s victories and played a huge part in the other, showing flair and creativity out of the centre.
Warrell earned selection for the tour by impressing supervisors at the Qantas AFL KickStart Camp in Melbourne last August.
Fifty indigenous footballers from across Australia were selected to attend the camp, which culminated in a curtain-raiser game to the Richmond-Hawthorn clash at the MCG.
After a standout performance in the August curtain-raiser at the MCG, Warrell was a shoe-in for the Flying Boomerangs 2010 South African tour.
Accompanying Christopher and his mates on the tour were AFL premiership players Michael O’Loughlin and Chris Johnson.
Christopher said he relished the chance to meet the two AFL superstars and found them to be ‘great blokes’.
The KickStart camp offered participants Australian Institute of Sport high-performance testing and the opportunity to meet Australian sporting star Cathy Freeman.
Tour highlights included a visit to Johannesburg’s Apartheid Museum and a tour of Nelson Mandela’s house.
Christopher’s personal tour highlight was not his best-on-ground, but the relationships he formed with his team-mates.
“Getting to know all the boys in the team, forming friendships with them, that was probably the highlight,” he said.
Most of the KickStart camp attendees also earned a Certificate II qualification in Indigenous leadership through the Australian Indigenous Learning Centre.
