WINNER of the gold medallion for recognition at the Yanchep Two Rocks Australia Day awards, Margaret Gilchrist said she loved to keep busy and was not good at doing nothing.

Mrs Gilchrist (72) volunteers with the Wanneroo City bus taking elderly people to the shops every fortnight, is treasurer of the Red Cross, helps at the Yanchep Two Rocks home support and said she enjoyed helping people.

“I have done it all my married life and like helping the elderly and people with disabilities,” she said.

“I find them lovely people. I am lucky to have been recognised and thrilled to get this award.”

Mrs Gilchrist said she had no plans to stop her volunteer work – just yet.

“I am not a person to sit at home and will carry on with the bus run even if I move somewhere else.”
